About

Hi, I'm Kev (Kevin). In case you are like, who is this random dude selling me stuff? Here's a bit about me.

I'm a 30 year old man with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master in Teaching. My teaching endorsements are in history and social studies. I've spent enough time writing in an academic manner, so please excuse my candid type here.

I like making things, especially games. I also like tricking people into learning. So... Good luck coming away from this stuff without some random thing breaking into your brain. Seriously though, my first objective here is to give you something fun to occupy your time, anything else is just gravy.

Overall, I'm a pretty simple dude. I just want one person to enjoy one thing I make. ❤

What is CarRel?

You made it this far, you must care.

A carrel is a small cubicle with a desk for the use of a reader or student in a library (according to Oxford dictionary). It is pronounced like the name, Carrol, or the song, carol.

CarRel, is a fictional island I, Kev, made up to house all of my silly, roughly related games and stuff. It is pronounced Caw-Rel. I generally liked the idea of these games and products being for one, maybe two people; perhaps something you might work on in a library. Those of you who know me probably know right away that of course I have made this all WAY too complicated and have an elaborate backstory and narrative for this place, but I won't overshare until it is necessary. Just know, I know this is silly, and I don't care, I am a silly human being.

Even if you can't get on board with the silliness, I hope you enjoy the games!

What's with the birds?

So you've seen some of my products... And you've noticed a bird logo on a lot of them... What's up with that?

Early on in my development of Cards of CarRel I realized I didn't want a numerical designation on each deck that would make the whole thing into a sequence; I wanted each deck to serve as an equally important part of the whole, not just the next. At first I was like, 'yeah, maybe colors?' I quickly realized there is a bit of a hierarchy to colors (primary, secondary, etc), so abandoned that idea. Anyway, fast forward a bit, and BIRDS! Why not birds? I don't have to tell you that some birds are better than others, but hey, most of that is just in our heads.

I will say here, most of the birds are roughly related to the content they are matched with (the Cards birds are generally state birds from different American states, the Coloring birds are native to, or largely present in, the places covered in said sheets, etc).

So, now you know. There is a reason for the birds, it is just a really stupid one.
